Working closely with Serco Restart, the 9-week digital skills programme was launched in Birmingham to support women to access basic digital skills.

On Thursday 9th March as part of International Women’s Day we held a celebratory event to recognise the achievements of the learners and offered a marketplace of services ranging from access to paid roles, work placements and CV writing to local charities and community groups to assist with cost of living, food banks, benefits advice and language support.

Outcomes

20 women, largely from minoritised backgrounds completed the course with a further 20 registered for the next cohort.

Five women supported to interview stage and 10 taking further courses. Course now embedded on a rolling basis. The initiative was shortlisted for the ESRG ‘Partnership of the Year Award’ 2023.

With thanks to our EDAC Members, Partners and supporters: Serco Restart, Aston University, Sparkhill JobCentre, Fortem Bid Services/Pure Project, EDAC/Sharan Project, The Mauth Centre, Maximus – Smartworks, Birmingham City Council, DWP NEPT Team and SCC Academy.

Following the success of this pilot, we will be working with Serco-restart and Back 2 Work to run a further digital skills and employability course in Birmingham in September 2024.
